Treatment of wasps’ nests
Do you own a property In Manchester Stockport Cheshire that wasps seem to keep returning to one year after the next? With the whole of Manchester, Stockport and Cheshire to choose from, you’re probably wondering why they seem to bother you every time! Part of the problem that you no doubt face is that your property has ideal conditions as far as wasps are concerned. For a start, it probably offers a number of prime nesting sites that are sheltered, warm and dry. Perhaps there is a roof overhang that the wind and the rain don’t seem to get in underneath; or maybe the wasps keep finding a way inside your loft, basement or garden shed, for similar reasons.
Rest assured, you’re not the only property owner in Manchester to experience this problem, even if it sometimes might feel like it! So what can be done? Manchester Pest Control recommend the following:
Wasps’ nests – deterrent
Once you are rid of any wasps’ nests on or in your property (either as a result of a nest dying out naturally or being professionally treated – see below), there are steps you can take to deter wasps from building nests again in future. It helps if you can establish where they keep getting in, as you can then seal off any holes or cracks in brickwork, and patch up rotting or damaged woodwork. Clearly this is something you should do during the colder autumn and winter months, as sealing off entrances when wasps are already inside will only result in them eating their way out elsewhere, possibly to emerge unexpectedly and angrily inside your property!
You should never knock a wasps’ nest down, or try to destroy it by hitting it with a heavy object or setting it on fire. None of these ‘methods’ work, and you’ll only end up with a much bigger problem on your hands. Nests may contain several thousand wasps, and they will defend their nest fiercely if it comes under attack. In fact, often they may attack first if they notice someone approaching close to the nest, so even if you’ve bought some DIY insecticide to try and treat the nest with, you could find yourself stung multiple times before you get near enough to apply it. Not only that, but shop-bought solutions are often not strong enough to deal with the problem, so your pains could all be for nothing.
One piece of advice that we can offer about nests that are empty after the end of summer is that they will never be used again in future – wasp queens always begin a new nest from scratch – so you might be better off leaving an empty nest where it is rather than taking it down, only for a new one to appear in its place the next season.
Wasps’ nests – treatment
The best way of dealing with a wasps’ nest inside your property is to call a professional wasp control firm such as Manchester Pest Control. The difference between the insecticide that our technicians are legally qualified to handle, and that which the public can buy in the shops, is significant – for a start, it definitely works! We make it our business to know what the most effective solutions are at any given time, and we have plenty of experience of dealing with problem wasps’ nests, which means that any nest will get dealt with quickly and efficiently once a customer gets in touch with us about it.
If you’re wondering what other edge we have over DIY solutions, it’s simple. Just like you, we don’t want to get stung, so we invest in gloves and overalls that wasps can’t sting us through or get inside at the ankles, around the neck, or up the sleeves (if you check our prices, you’ll find we’re definitely more cost effective than having to purchase all this equipment yourself). This enables the Manchester Pest Control technician to get up close to the nest and inspect it before applying the insecticide spray directly to the nest. While this is being done, we advise that you and your family stay away from the vicinity, and keep doors and windows closed so that agitated wasps target only the technician and not you.
The insecticide that we use will take effect almost immediately from the moment wasps in the nest come into contact with it. They are likely to walk it further inside the nest before they die, which means it will spread rapidly throughout the nest, soon killing all other wasps inside. Wasps that are outside the nest, either defending it or away in search of food, will return later in the day and will succumb as well. This means that often a nest treated by Manchester Pest Control can be considered safe between 24-48 hours after the nest was treated by us.
