Nests may contain several thousand wasps, and they will defend their nest fiercely if it comes under attack. In fact, often they may attack first if they notice someone approaching close to the nest, so even if you’ve bought some DIY insecticide to try and treat the nest with, you could find yourself stung multiple times before you get near enough to apply it.
