Manchester Bed Bug Pest Control – Bedbugs
Manchester Bedbugs are becoming a substantial problem all over the world. The rapid growth of this problem stems from the fact that they spread easily and are hard to treat.
In order to control bedbug problems, people need to know what to look for. They also need to know how important it is to deal with bedbugs as soon as they are discovered. Bedbugs feed on blood; human blood and mammal blood. Bed bugs do readily transmit diseases; their bites are distressing to humans and can cause wide-spread irritation. Bed bugs tend to bite multiple times and can cause itching a severe rash and itch terribly.
Information: where to look and what to look for.
Bedbugs are normally found in bedrooms but can also be found in other rooms, hiding in cracks and crevices. Their favourite hiding places are in mattress seams, in the frame of the bed, behind the headboard and in places where the wall and the floor meet. They can also be found behind peeling wallpaper, under carpets and behind skirting boards. They grow to be approximately 5mm in length and are light brown and oval shaped. After they have fed, they tend to be a little rounder in shape and a little darker in colour.
Bedbugs are nocturnal and are attracted to the carbon dioxide in our breath as well as our body heat. Dark staining of a mattress indicates an established infestation of bedbugs; the dark stain caused by the excreta of the bedbugs. Bedbugs also excrete an unpleasant scent and this too can be smelt in rooms that have an established infestation of bedbugs. The presence of bedbugs can also be corroborated when small droplets of blood are found on the sheets.
How to effectively deal with bedbug infestations.
Bedbugs are by far the most difficult pests to destroy. They can live for over a year without food so they are extremely difficult to flush out and find. Only professional treatment will eradicate bedbug infestations. DIY products and methods may serve to keep the number of bedbugs under control, but they will never completely eliminate the problem. Homeowners are often tempted to try DIY products in order to save a little money but these products and methods only provide temporary relief, the bedbugs soon return and the numbers increase.
The biggest challenge with bedbug infestations is finding the bedbugs. Only well-trained, experienced, professional pest control specialists know where to find all the adult and junior bedbugs and their eggs. Manchester Pest Control has experienced bedbug technicians that can provide this service to the residents of Manchester, Stockport, Cheshire and Warrington. These experienced technicians will also use insecticides that have a long lasting, residual affect; these insecticides cannot be bought in local DIY or hardware stores.
Bedbugs are nothing if not persistent. Professional inspectors from Manchester Pest Control can spend anything from a couple of hours to a few days finding all the hiding places of the bedbugs and their eggs. The technicians from Manchester Pest Control know that persistence and attention to detail are the only way to completely eradicate a bedbug infestation.
If you think you have a bedbug problem, call Manchester Pest Control immediately. No other pest control company can provide you with the same level of expertise and professionalism. Manchester Pest Control can eradicate your bedbug problem and make sure it does not come back. Pest Control for Hotels, Bed & Breakfasts, and Guesthouses
Are you an owner or manager in the hospitality sector in Manchester, Stockport or Cheshire? If you are, you will no doubt be aware of the reputational risks that your business may struggle to recover from if health concerns are raised by guests or the Environmental Health Officer. Here, Manchester Pest Control outlines the areas of your business under threat from a variety of common pests, including but certainly not limited to mice, cockroaches, and bed bugs.
Guest rooms
As we’ve mentioned elsewhere in our blogs, bed bugs are not a sign of a untidy property – but they’re certainly not something that paying guests will welcome if they wake up covered in bites. Ironically, bed bugs are likely to be brought into your hotel by guests themselves! This is due to the constant turnover of visitors passing through from all manner of locations, and bed bugs taking the opportunity to hitch a ride in their suitcases and other belongings.
Bed bugs do not limit their activity to beds alone, and can be found in carpets and other furnishings. The females lay large numbers of eggs which hatch within a very short timeframe, and the growing number of bed bugs can rapidly spread from a single guest room into the corridors and rooms beyond, leading to a full-scale infestation. Manchester Pest Control will of course handle such matters – big or small – discretely, and we can also offer advice to you and your staff that will help identify a bed bug problem in its earliest stages.
Food preparation and serving
With the kitchens working overtime to cater to your guests, it can sometimes be possible for staff to overlook certain precautionary measures that would prevent or discourage pests. Instead, in the hub of activity, doors and windows might be frequently left open, food waste is not properly tidied up or disposed of, and work surfaces and floors may be given only a cursory clean. Is all food stored in air-tight containers and do staff clean down the back of or between units if there are spillages?
Clearly, you should have a policy in place that all staff are aware of and are expected to abide by, and they should be made aware of the implications if they don’t follow the policy to the letter. Kitchens are at risk from rats and mice, which also bring with them various parasites and diseases that can make people very ill. The same applies to insects such as cockroaches and flies. And if staff think it’s acceptable to take the risk, tell them to picture the consequences the moment any of these pests are seen by a visitor to your hotel!
At the first sign of any rodent or insect activity in your kitchen or restaurant, give Manchester Pest Control a call and we’ll be right round to deal with it. Even if only one mouse or cockroach is spotted, there could be many more hiding out of sight, and we have the tools and the knowledge that will ensure these are targeted and do not pose a future problem for you.
Access all areas
It is not just the areas where guests dine and sleep that need to be kept free of unwanted visitors. The structure and grounds of your hotel should also be checked regularly and kept in good shape in order to deter pests from getting in. Above ground level, there is the risk of birds, squirrels and flying insects accessing roof space if your roof is not in the best shape from cumulative wear-and-tear or storm damage. Once in, squirrels can eat their way through vital beams and wiring (even sparking electrical fires!), and a dead pigeon in a water tank is a sure-fire way of polluting the hotel’s water supply.
Manchester Pest Control can help to rid you of any pigeons or grey squirrels in your hotel’s roof space, although please note that if you find red squirrels or bats, these are protected species and you should familiarise yourself with UK law where these are concerned. We can also deal with or put in place preventative measures for rats, mice, ants and wasps in your garden as well as installing bird and squirrel-proof mesh, pigeon spiking (not harmful, but a good deterrent) and offering advice to help you and your staff more readily identify risks sooner.
Working with your local pest control experts
Please feel welcome to call Manchester Pest Control today, even if you have no visible evidence of a pest problem – it’s better to run a routine check every now and then to be on the safe side, and we’re best placed to do this as we know the kind of things to look out for that other people might miss. We offer a reasonable rate for this, and for our pest proofing services.
Together, working in partnership with hotels, bed & breakfasts, and guesthouses, Manchester Pest Control can help to significantly reduce the risks of pest infestation and damage to reputation. This service covers the whole of Manchester, Stockport and Cheshire.

Bed bugs: A nightmare in homes
Here’s an unpleasant pest we’ve been itching to tell you about, and unfortunately you might have been itching too…
At Manchester Pest Control we do appreciate that this is no laughing matter. People will react to the presence of bed bugs in different ways, with some not experiencing much in the way of discomfort at all, so it can be hard to know when you have an infestation under your roof. Some family members or guests may have visible bites, which it is easy to confuse with being bitten by a mosquito, though a mosquito will bite at random. A series of bites in a straight line is more likely to be the work of a bed bug. This can cause unpleasant itching or a rash, which scratching could then cause to become infected.
We should stress that bed bugs aren’t dangerous, but this doesn’t make them any easier to live with. They’re not even a sign of a dirty home, but your home can feel dirty knowing they’re in it. And it’s understandable that you could be finding it difficult to sleep, either because you’re being bitten, worrying about being bitten, or just plain aware of their presence when you try and tuck down at night. It’s not something you want your family, house guests and pets being exposed to on a permanent basis either.
You can see bed bugs with the naked eye – adults are about half a centimetre long, rust-coloured, and have flat bodies which they can squeeze into tiny cracks and crevices, the seams of mattresses, and in and around headboards. You might find dead ones in your sheets if you have rolled onto them in the night. They don’t just confine their activity to the bedroom, however, and can quickly spread all over the home, to other furniture and carpets. A single female can lay up to 500 eggs in just a two month period. In a block of flats, it is very easy for them to spread from one flat to another.
Bed bugs may also enter your home on clothing or in luggage if you have been holidaying at a hotel or B&B where they are a problem. They can arrive in second-hand furniture or rugs. And once they are in your home, they can be very difficult to get rid of. Sometimes you might think the problem has gone away on its own or with a shop-bought remedy, but it is possible for a bed bug to survive almost a whole year without feeding. They have also become immune to an increasing number of insecticides – in fact, some insecticides used in close proximity to where you sleep may be more harmful to you than to the bed bugs!
